Tachograph calibration

Tachograph calibration is an obligatory procedure for every (transport) vehicle equipped with this device. A tachograph not only records driving times and rest periods but also monitors the speed and distance traveled by a truck. However, calibration is an important part of keeping compliant with all EU regulations. Legally, the tachograph of your trucks must be calibrated after installation and then every two years. Sometimes this needs to be done more frequently if specified by the manufacturer. In addition, tachograph calibration is mandatory after changes such as repairs, tachograph replacement, VIN updates, or tire modifications.

Why is it so important to calibrate your tachograph?

Calibrating your tachograph is essential to ensure compliance with legal driving times and rest periods, which benefits road safety. A correctly calibrated tachograph ensures reliable recording of driving behavior, which is crucial during EU tacho inspections and for preventing fines. Moreover, proper use of the tachograph contributes to fair competition in the transport sector. Regular calibration prevents technical defects and contributes to the longevity of your vehicle by preventing overload. Finally, it protects the reputation of your transport company and promotes transparent business operations. This process includes inspection of the tachograph, calibration, and confirmation with a calibration seal.

Please keep in mind that by August 2025 it is mandatory to have a 2nd generation smart tachograph installed in your truck or lorry.
